The
main aim of the Aldea Sagrada Familia has always been that
of taking care of homeless or orphan children. For this reason,
the Albergue, a residence for children, was opened in May
2001. |
|
‘Albergue’
in Spanish means ‘hostel’. The home, at present
gives shelter to 61 orphans and abandoned children as well
as children who ran away from home because of physical and
psychological abuse. Six of these children are physically
impaired because of maltreatment and abandonment from their
families. The children residing here vary in age from newborn
babies to 18-year-olds. |

Qualified
people look after these children throughout the day and
night, working on a shift basis. They teach them basic housework
and assign them tasks according to their age such as making
the beds, preparing breakfast, sweeping and clearing-up
the rooms, dusting, etc. They also give a lot of importance
in teaching them manners and giving them good religious
and moral values. In fact, the children are taught to say
the morning prayer, before leaving for school in front of
St. Joseph's workshop. They also say the meal prayer at
midday and the night prayer before going to sleep. In all
these 3 prayers they thank the Lord as well as their benevolent
benefactors who bless them with wonderful things.
