History of the Aldea

What is the Aldea Sagrada Familia?

‘Aldea’ means ‘small village’ or ‘hamlet’ in Spanish. The full name of this children’s home is Aldea Sagrada Familia, meaning that it is a hamlet dedicated to the Holy Family. The Aldea consists of various building blocks, each with a different function:

This complex was set up to help, support and maintain Peruvian children in difficulty and is currently run by Fr.Frank_Cortis MSSP.

Academic formation: All the children attending or living in the Aldea have a low education level and are behind their classmates at school. However, they attend school and are given additional academic support after school hours so that they may all catch up with the rest and complete their studies. We also prepare them for their future by teaching them skills so that they would be able to find a job and be self-sufficient once they leave the Aldea.

Spiritual formation: Every Sunday the children attend Mass and catechesis together with other children of the parish. They are prepared for and given the Holy Sacraments of Baptism, Holy Communion and Holy Confirmation. Twice daily as they gather round the dining table for their lunch and supper, they pray and thank God for the generosity of their benefactors. They also pray together every night before going to bed.
